About Seatac, Washington

A lot of the cities surrounding Seattle have rich histories and incredible stories surrounding their incorporation. They stir your imagination and really give you a feel for the "old days", when settlers first touched down in the area and worked day and night to establish something truly incredible: a home in a foreign land. Sadly, SeaTac lacks that characteristic. Incorporated in 1990, most of the area had already been long inhabited by Washington residents before the city first became a city.

Just because SeaTac doesn't have an incredible history behind its founding, that doesn't mean it's not an incredible city. SeaTac was aptly named – if you were to take the best qualities of Seattle and Tacoma and put them together, you'd be left with a city much like SeaTac. With more than 900 businesses, SeaTac contributes more than 40,000 jobs and 80 "Fortune 1000" companies to the region. While most other suburbs of Seattle depend on the larger city for jobs, some people living in Seattle commute to SeaTac for work. If that doesn't give you an idea of how incredible this relatively small city really is, nothing will.

None of this is to mean that SeaTac doesn't have its flaws. One thing you'd be hard-pressed to find in SeaTac is small-town charm. Even though the population is only about 27,000 people, SeaTac has the "feel" of a larger city and a level of diversity that's often only found in much larger cities. In fact, more than 14% of the population of SeaTac is Asian – that's one of the highest statistics for that demographic in the country. SeaTac is also one of the few areas in the Seattle Metropolitan Area in which non-Hispanic Whites are the Majority. Whites make up just 45.9% of the population of SeaTac.
